Time to update the resumé.

Apart from bestowing upon us an extra sleep in, the Queen’s Birthday long weekend is also a time when select Australians are honoured as part of the Order of Australia, a series of awards recognising those who have given a great service to the country.

This year, actress Cate Blanchett and designer Collette Dinnigan were among the 900 to receive awards, whose recipients also included actress Deborah Mailman and Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, among others.

Blanchett received a Companion of the Order of Australia, adding to already long list of awards and accolades which include multiple Oscars, Golden Gloves and AACTA’s.

Dinnigan was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the General Division for her work as designer, a career which spans 30 years.

“It suddenly makes me feel a bit older,” she told AAP. “You don’t get something as recognisable as this bestowed upon you when you’re a youth, it takes time to actually accomplish what I did.”

George and Kathy Gross were the only other fashion designers to make the list, and have gained notoriety for their work dressing Princess Diana and re-designing the Qantas uniforms in the 1990s.

One to add to the resumé? You bet it.
